The smart meter rollout will require suppliers and other organisations, such as meter operating companies, to replace approximately 50 million gas and electricity meters with smart meters by 2020.
This is a massive undertaking, with the scale of the programme requiring considerable effort from energy companies and collaboration across the energy sector to ensure a successful roll-out. A significant element of the roll-out will be planning installations both at a strategic level and on a site by site basis.
The task of planning and delivering an efficient smart meter roll-out will depend on the use of housing data and insight. This will allow installers to understand the homes and customers they will be visiting, so they can plan a more efficient, cost-effective installation process and maintain a positive customer experience during the Smart Meter roll-out.
Energy Saving Trust is committed to supporting the Smart Meter roll-out through collaborating with the energy sector to develop data and insight into the UK housing stock that will help the installation process and ensure an effective delivery of the roll-out.
